The fastest option is a rideshare app or airport taxi.
Airport taxi: Official taxis wait outside the terminal. Fixed fare 150 baht per car to the Old City — no negotiation needed. Quick, air-conditioned, and convenient if you don’t have Grab or Bolt installed.
Grab and Bolt: Both apps work well in Chiang Mai. Bolt is usually 10–20% cheaper — expect 90–150 baht for a 10–15 minute ride to our door. Download the app before you land, as SMS verification can be tricky abroad.
RTC City Bus Route 24: The old R3 buses no longer operate — they were replaced by routes 24L (Red) and 24R (Yellow) in June 2025. For Cat Motors, take Bus 24R (Yellow) and get off at Wat Phra Singh (วัดพระสิงห์) — we’re a 2–3 minute walk from there. The fare is 50 baht, plus 30 baht for large luggage. Buses run roughly every hour from 7:30 to 18:10, but schedules change frequently. Use the ViaBus app to check real-time bus positions, or call 084 668 9125 for current info.
Honest advice: if you’re traveling as a couple with bags, the airport taxi at 150 baht is hard to beat — faster than the bus, fixed price, no app needed.

The railway station is about 4 km from us — too far to walk comfortably with luggage in the heat.
Grab or Bolt: 50–80 baht, 10–15 minutes door-to-door. Download the app before you arrive — it’s the easiest and most reliable option.
Red songthaew: You’ll see these shared red trucks everywhere. In theory they cost 30–40 baht, but drivers often overcharge tourists (100+ baht is common). At that price, Grab is faster and more comfortable.
There used to be a B1 bus route, but it stopped during COVID and may not be fully operational. Check the CM Transit app or ask locally before counting on it.
Arcade is the furthest point — about 5–6 km away.
Grab or Bolt: 60–100 baht, 15–20 minutes door-to-door. Best choice, especially with heavy bags.
Red songthaew: Locals pay 30–40 baht, but tourists are often quoted 100–150 baht. If that happens, just use Grab — same price, air conditioning, and drops you right at our door.
Download Grab and Bolt before arriving — both work well in Chiang Mai. Grab has more drivers and accepts credit cards. Bolt is usually cheaper but may have fewer cars during rain or rush hour. inDrive also works here with negotiable pricing, but has fewer drivers.
At the airport, the rideshare pickup area is past the official taxi counter — follow the signs or ask staff.
